Karren

Karren
CVT/Lead Veterinary Technician

I moved to Colorado with my husband in the summer of 2000 and enjoy all the outdoor activities this state has to offer.

After several years as a Travel Agent and many more in customer service related jobs, I decided to pursue a career in Veterinary Medicine.

I graduated from Bel-Rea Institute of Animal Technology in 2005 and cannot imagine doing anything other than helping animals and their families.

Since moving to Colorado, my husband and I have taken full advantage of the outdoor life.   We enjoy hiking and backpacking the many trails available.  Recently we have taken up rock and ice climbing. On my lazy days I enjoy reading and even sewing.

Currently we are down to one four legged child. Her name is Señorita (Rita for short) and we adopted her from the Puerto Vallarta SPCA in May 2014. Rita looks like a black lab mix but DNA testing says she is Mastiff/Bassett hound mix. Either way she is a bundle of energy that fits into our active life.

I'm a Colorado native and can't imagine living anywhere else.  I have especially fallen in love with Colorado Springs.

After many years working in accounting and customer service I decided to pursue my dream of a career working with animals.  I completed my studies and graduated from Bel Rea Institute of Animal Technology in 1999.  I became a member of the Westside family in 2011 and love the people I work with and the very special clients who trust us with their four legged family members.

My husband Mike and I fulfilled our dreams of living in the mountains and enjoy spending time in the home we built and the challenges of mountain living.  We enjoy continuing to work on our home and trying to garden at high altitude.  We also enjoy camping and fishing.

In my spare time my passions include NASCAR racing and racing of all kinds, hiking, biking and stitching.  I also love music and my new challenge is learning to play the guitar.

My family consists of our 2 rescue dogs - Ellie Mae and Samantha.

Ruth

Ruth
Certified Veterinary Technician

I grew up in western New York and joined the Army right after high school. I was stationed in Germany, Colorado and Iraq. After the Army, I moved to Indiana where I worked on a horse-breeding farm for six years. I decided to move back to Colorado Springs to attend school at Colorado Academy of Veterinary Technology, which I have graduated from and became a Certified Veterinary Technician.

Of all the places I have been Colorado Springs is one of my favorites, which is why I have decided to make this place my home. In my free time, I enjoy hiking in the mountains, gardening and horseback riding.

I have two “children,” Shrek who is a three-year-old English bulldog/beagle mix and is quite the character. He loves sleeping in, going for car rides and going on hikes with me. Ash is a one and a half year old mastiff mix who just recently joined my family. He loves to play with Shrek and is quite the couch potato.

I am proud to be a part of Westside Animal Hospital’s team and love my new career working with animals every day.

Kayla

Kayla
Certified Veterinary Technician

I'm originally from a small town near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and have lived there my whole life. Wanting a fresh start, my boyfriend and I recently moved to Colorado Springs where we're able to pursue our passion for the outdoors. Since moving, we've absolutely fallen in love with the scenery and culture.

I graduated from the Vet Tech Institute in Pittsburgh in 2013 and became a licensed veterinary technician shortly after that. I spent my first 4 years as a technician working at an emergency hospital in PA. I've known that I wanted to work with animals my entire life and couldn't imagine doing anything else. I'm very grateful for all the personal relationships I've built with clients and patients through this profession.

Colorado suits my interests perfectly as I love to spend hours hiking through the mountains and exploring new trails. I also enjoy spending time with friends/family, traveling, camping, playing board games, catching up on my favorite shows, and experiencing new restaurants.

On this journey, I brought along my two fur babies; Charlie is my 6 year old ferret that I've had since she was a couple months old and Marley is my 6 year old cat that I adopted through my tech school. They're the best of friends. I've also recently adopted a new dog named Parker who is about 2 years old. We were very lucky to come across him and he's fitting in great!

Rebecca

Rebecca
Certified Veterinary Technician

I was born and raised in a small town in southwest Kansas. After graduating high school in 2010, I attended Hutchinson Community College in Hutchinson, Kansas, with a major in Elementary Education. It was there that I visited an animal shelter and fell in love with a 9 month old rat terrier mix named Ellie. After graduating with my associate’s degree, I moved back home to work and take a break from school.

In 2014, I decided to leave the small town life and move to Colorado to be closer to my mom. It was the best decision I’ve ever made! After working in retail for a couple of years, I knew I needed to change career paths. In 2016, I began attending the Colorado Academy of Veterinary Technology to become a CVT. Westside Animal Hospital is my first job in the veterinary field and I can’t wait to begin my career here!

At the end of 2017, I was lucky enough to foster a dog and her three puppies through a rescue organization. The puppies went to their forever homes, and I completely fell in love with the mama dog and decided to adopt her. I wasn’t looking for a second dog, but Lily, a two year old pit bull mix, fit perfectly into our little crew. Ellie, Lily, and I thoroughly enjoy living in Colorado and everything it has to offer.

Megan B.
Certified Veterinary Technician

I am a native to California and in early 2020 moved to Colorado Springs with my husband. The COVID-19 situation made it difficult at first to find a job, yet then Westside Animal Hospital hired me, and I couldn’t be happier.

I attended and graduated Carrington College in 2016, earning my Associates degree in Veterinary Technology. In my free time, I enjoy crocheting, walks along the bike trail, and baking sweets. I have three cats: Minx, Shu, and Kitten who are my precious babies. They act like brothers and their favorite activity is cuddling with my husband and I whenever they can.

Ana

Ana
Certified Veterinary Technician

Ana has called Colorado home for the past 8 years, living life adventurously with her wife, daughter, and fur babies Banana, Bloo, and Nova. You may or may not find them getting lost in the mountains in one way or another, whether it be biking or hiking. Ana grew up loving animals and always had a passion for medicine. She pursued a career in veterinary medicine studying at Colorado Academy of Veterinary Technology; graduating Magna Cum Laude with an Associate Degree of Applied Science in Veterinary Technology and then soon after became certified.

She hopes to expand her knowledge and become specialized in the future. Westside Animal Hospital took Ana under their wing(s) as an intern, jump-started her career, and helped her grow as a technician. She has enjoyed working with all the staff, engaging with clients, and caring for each and every fur baby!

Marisa

Marisa
CVT, CCRVN

I grew up in the Santa Ynez Valley, near Santa Barbara, California and moved to Denver in the fall of ‘14 to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. I graduated from Bel-Rea Institute of Animal Technology with High Honors in March of ‘17. During my stretch in school, I spent time volunteering at Aurora Animal Shelter and Zuma’s Horse Rescue Ranch. Straight after graduation, I was hired on at CRCG (Canine Rehabilitation & Conditioning Group), where I had completed my internship, thus starting my career in Canine Rehabilitation; so exciting!

After working with Dr. Danielle Wynn at her mobile canine rehab practice then at a VCA Hospital radiology department, I realized that Rehabilitation was where my heart truly was, so I found a position as a Canine Rehab Tech at Wheat Ridge Animal Hospital and continued that journey, working under Dr. Patsy Mich.

I started my CCRVN(Certified Canine Rehabilitation Veterinary Nurse) courses in the summer of ’20 through CRI(Canine Rehabilitation Institute), just before moving back to Santa Barbara, CA, to spend more time with my family working at Atlas Rehabilitation for Canines as their solo rehab technician and continued my online studies for CRI. I eventually felt the call to move back to Colorado in February ‘21 and found a welcoming space here at Westside Animal Hospital as their Rehab Technician. I officially became a CCRVN in May of ‘21 and am now looking forward to pursuing certification in Canine Massage.

My furry companion who has stuck by my side since April ‘17, my graduation gift to myself, is my darling dude, Valentine. He’s a 4.5 year old brown dog who loves to join me on backpacking, hiking, camping, and road trips. His favorite place to go after work is Bear Creek Dog Park. I couldn’t ask for a better adventure pup!

I enjoy traveling, live music, snowboarding, running, rock climbing, and anything thrill-seeking that CO has to offer, in my free time.

My partner Nicholas and I have a mini zoo with our dog Duke, cat Elsa, gecko Arya, and frogs Michael Scott and Dwight Schrute.
